Emergency Relief in Guatemala

With the world media focussing on the earthquake in Pakistan and hurricane damage in the USA , the devastation wrought by hurricane Stan throughout Guatemala in mid October has not had the headline attention it deserves. With a death toll of more than 1,500 and more than 100,000 left homeless due to widespread flooding and mudslides, the true humanitarian cost is only now becoming fully apparent. Temporary shelter and basic necessities such as food and clean water are emergency requirements.

Through Helps International, a US based charitable organisation with offices in Guatemala , Fairey Industrial Ceramics Limited (FICL) is supplying thousands of ceramic drinking water filters to the affected areas. Helps International is working with the Guatemalan government to make sure that the filters are distributed as quickly as possible to where they are needed the most. With clean water being top of the priority list, the President and First Lady of Guatemala are taking a personal interest in the project.

FICL is proud to be the main water filter supplier to many of the major aid agencies around the world. With so many natural disasters occurring simultaneously, we are working hard to make sure that all filter requirements from humanitarian organisations are met with all possible speed. For more information on Helps International and the work that they are doing in Guatemala , please visit www.helpsinternational.com
New Product Launch - LP3

Responding to calls for a high capacity, high flow rate plastic gravity filter predominantly for the emergency and camping markets, FICL has developed the LP3. Processing up to 90 litres of filtered water per day, LP3 can be fitted with either 3 x Sterasyl or 3 x Super Sterasyl ceramic candles. The increased capacity means that 10 inch candles can be fitted for maximum flow and up to 20 litres of filtered water are available at a time.

LP3 is available now. Contact the FICL sales department for further details of the product and the special deals available for its launch.

The LP3 is the first of a raft of new drinking water filter products which will be added to the FICL range over the coming months. Keep an eye on this newsletter and our website www.faireyceramics.com for details of new product launches.

New FICL Website
New Web-Site

The first part of FICL's new marketing plan is now in place. The new look website was launched at the beginning of September and has been received very well by customers and distributors alike. One distributor was kind enough to describe it as "simply superb!"

The number of serious internet sales leads increased almost overnight and the general feedback is that the site now provides a useful first port of call for information on our company and products. The website will continue to be expanded and updated on a regular basis. Further marketing initiatives will also follow in the coming months.

We always welcome feedback on how we can make this an even more useful resource, so please contact us via www.faireyceramics.com if you have any suggestions.

FICL Hong Kong Distributor opens new facility in China

FICL's Hong Kong distributor, Le Chainon, has seized the opportunity to open a new facility in China . The newly refurbished facilities are located in Fushan and include sales offices, a large filter assembly area, filter housing testing facilities, and substantial warehousing.

Le Chainon is now well placed to serve the Chinese market with the DoultonŽ ceramic water filter range. Le Chainon imports DoultonŽ ceramic filters from Fairey Industrial Ceramics Limited in the UK for inclusion into a diverse range of housings for the wholesale, trade, and retail markets.

Le Chainon Le Chainon will be supplementing its trade and wholesale sales teams with an in-store promotions team over the next few months. A Chinese language website will also soon follow. FICL's Far East Regional Manager, David Cheung, believes that "China is a significant opportunity for Fairey in conjunction with Le Chainon. We can transfer many of the principles that work so well for Le Chainon in Hong Kong to China . We are confident they will meet with equal success."
New Business Development Manager for FFSL

Fairey Filtration Systems Limited (FFSL) is delighted to welcome Mr. Ian Elliott as its new Business Development Manager. Ian will be responsible for the global sales and marketing of Star-SepT "produced water" treatment systems. Such systems are becoming a "must have" purchase in the Oil and Gas industry.

Produced water is a by-product of the oil extraction process. By failing to extract oil from produced water, it is thought that the global Oil and Gas industry loses 2 million barrels of oil per day with a value of $100 million, not to mention the environmental impact of returning this water to the sea.

Mr Ian Elliott

Through FFSL, Fairey is now in a position to bring our ceramic technology to bear on this problem. Interest in Star-SepT from the major Oil and Gas players at the recent Offshore Europe 2005 exhibition in Aberdeen was very high. Ian has many years experience within the Oil and Gas sector, most recently as Business Development Manager for Weir Pumps. He has travelled extensively, especially in the Gulf region, to secure large capital equipment orders for Weir. Ian's experience will be invaluable in securing Star-SepT contracts for FFSL. We wish him all the very best in his new role.

Ian can be contacted at Fairey Filtration Systems Limited on +44 (0)1782 66 44 47 www.faireyfiltrationsystems.com

Offshore Europe 2005 Exhibition

In September, Fairey Filtration Systems Limited exhibited for the first time at Offshore Europe 2005 in Aberdeen. This is the largest Oil and Gas industry exhibition in Europe and attracts all the major operators and engineering contractors, as well as equipment suppliers.

The exhibition provided an excellent opportunity to promote FFSL's Star-SepT technology.

Mr Ian Elliott

The main focus of FFSL's marketing is the filtration of produced water as operators are faced with tighter regulations for oil discharge limits. The stand was visited by many of the North Sea operators, as well as oil companies, consultants, and world-wide trading companies, all of whom are well aware of the produced water issues and are looking for solutions. Fairey's Star-SepT Ceramic Crossflow Microfiltration Systems offer an ideal solution as they are capable of reducing the oil in produced water to <5ppm - well below the level recommended by OSPAR. The exhibition coincided with the article 'Ceramic Star on the Rise' in September's edition of the Oil & Gas journal Offshore Engineer, all about FFSL's technology.
